What are your cleaning protocols? We want to assure you and your family that your accommodation has been meticulously cleaned and sanitized following all guidelines and using products recommended by the Public Health Agency of Canada and protocols set out by the Hotel Association of Canada. In addition, all of our staff have been certified by Clean It Right, a Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia program as it relates to COVID-19.We provide contactless Check-In and Check-Out to all of our guests allowing you to go directly to your accommodation upon arrival and depart readily. Our room attendants will not enter your cottage/room for housekeeping during your stay unless you give your permission for them to do so on your behalf. We opened in May 2002 and achieved instant success, setting new levels of standards in the accommodation business in Cape Breton, given our proximity to the beach and the high level of quality we offer our guests. Bookings What are your check-in and check-out times? Check-In after 3:30 pm; Check-Out before 11:00 am Please make arrangements in advance for late arrival (via email or phone). What is your cancellation policy? We request 72 hours advance cancellation notice prior to your arrival; reservations cancelled with less than 72 hours notice will be charged one night's accommodation at the standard rate plus 3% marketing levy and 15% HST for each unit booked. Do you take a deposit when booking? We do not take a deposit for stays under one week but we do require a credit card (Visa or MC only) to confirm a reservation. There is a non-refundable deposit of $100 per unit when weekly or multiple units are booked. How long is your season? Lantern H & H's is a year-round destination. How close are NS's airports to Lantern Hill & Hollow? Sydney NS is 145 KM (90 Miles) 2 hoursHalifax NS is 450 KM (280 Miles) 4 hrs 45 minutes How close are the cottages to the beach? Our proximity to the beach is one of our main advantages and offers our guests a premier seaside experience. Our cottages are within 50 ft to 250 ft from North Bay beach. Bonfires on the beach under the moon and stars are a big hit with kids, both young and old! How far away from Ingonish is Baddeck and Cheticamp? Baddeck is south of us along the Cabot Trail just 1 hour and 15 minutes while Cheticamp is 2 hours to our north. These make ideal day trips with lots to do and see! Courtesy Do you allow children to stay at your property? All children are allowed to stay in our cottages. We do charge for all children over the age of 2 years at the same rate as an extra adult.Children over the age of 12 years are considered as young adults at our property-they are allowed to stay in our guest rooms in the main house and our cottages.We cannot accommodate children under the age of 12 in our guest rooms in the main house out of consideration for the comfort of all of our house guests.Guests rooms in the main house accommodate 2 adults only, with no exceptions, as each room has only 1 bed. Do you allow people to visit with guests staying at your property? For your peace, comfort and security the use of Lantern Hill & Hollow is reserved for paying guests only. Do you allow smoking? All accommodations are non-smoking. Smoking is permitted outside. Do you allow pets? Pets are not permitted. Do you allow bonfires? We allow guests to have bonfires on the beach. Guests are responsible for having their own bonfires with firewood that we supply daily. Note that fire bans, when in effect, will be posted-fires as well as fireworks are not permitted at such times, with no exceptions. Do you allow fireworks? We allow fireworks on the beach provided you get pre-approval from the Front Desk as we must advise all guests staying with us in advance as a courtesy. All fireworks must be finished by 9:30 pm-with no exceptions. Guests are responsible for cleaning up the discharged fireworks from the beach themselves afterwards to ensure everyone’s safety. Can we buy fresh fish locally to prepare ourselves? The lobster fishing season in this area starts in mid-May and finishes in mid-July. If you time it right you can buy lobster directly from the local fisherman on their boats at the wharf in North Bay (just minutes away). Can we Swim at the Beach? We do allow swimming on our beach-known as North Bay Beach. There is no surf guard stationed on our section of the beach so please supervise yourselves carefully at all times while swimming.We are also blessed with many other options for swimming nearby:Black Brook Day Use:Located 16 km north. Take in the ocean views at one of our most popular beaches, bordered by a gentle waterfall on one end and intersected by a freshwater brook. Washrooms, change rooms, kitchen shelters, playground and a picnic area. No surf guards on duty.Ingonish Beach Day Use:Located 5 km south at the Keltic Lodge exit. A spectacular saltwater beach with a freshwater lake, picnic area, tennis courts and playground. Surf guards are on duty at the saltwater beach during July & August.North Bay Beach Day Use:Located 1 km south. For those seeking a quieter, more secluded beach experience, this long 3 km expanse of sand beach is very inviting. Lantern Hill & Hollow’s beach is part of this beach. Pit privies and a picnic area for your use. No surf guards on duty.Warren Lake:Located 5 km north. A large freshwater lake with incredible mountain scenery. Pit privies and a picnic area. No surf guards on duty. Do you host weddings and/or reunions? So sorry, but we do not. Our property does not have food services nor do we allow gatherings of any size due to the intimacy of our units. The Keltic Lodge and Seascapes Coastal Retreat are suitable venues to contact. Yes. Highland Pharmasave is located 23 km north in Neil’s Harbour. Is there a hospital/medical clinic in your area? Buchanan Memorial Hospital is located in Neil’s Harbour just 15 minutes to the north by vehicle. In case of a medical emergency, guests may visit its emergency walk in clinic 24 hours; 7 days per week. What do we do in an emergency? In case of an emergency at any time, please contact any staff member on-site at the time or visit the Front Desk. We will also provide you with a mobile number upon your arrival (should staff not be available). If necessary, call 911.There are fire extinguishers located in each kitchen of the cottages and on each level of the guest house. If a fire occurs and you are in doubt as to whether you can extinguish it, please exit the building and contact the Front Desk or call 911.
